Skubala in waiting game over in-demand Erhahon

Ethan Erhahon was left out of Lincoln's pre-season game against Grimsby because of mounting transfer interest, says Imps boss Michael Skubala.

Ethan Erhahon was left out of Lincoln City's pre-season game against Grimsby Town because of mounting transfer interest in the midfielder, says Imps head coach Michael Skubala.

The 24-year-old has repeatedly been linked with a move away from the LNER Stadium in the past year, with long-time admirers Swansea City, as well as Oxford United, Bolton Wanderers and Wigan Athletic, reportedly keen on signing the Scot this summer.

Erhahon had featured in a number of pre-season games, and was with the Imps in Portugal for a training camp last week, but Skubala said "it was a good idea for him not to play" against Grimsby on Tuesday after the latest interest was shown.

"In this situation, for him and for us, we just thought it was right for him not to play," Skubala told BBC Radio Lincolnshire.

"We will see if anything progresses or not."

It was just over a year ago that Lincoln director of football Jez George said he expected Erhahon would fetch a club-record fee when sold in future.

At the end of the latest season, George went so far as to say that club's interested in the player had been told exactly how much it would cost to prise him away from the League One side.

Lincoln reportedly knocked back a £600,000 bid Swansea City in May.

While Lincoln City start their campaign against Reading in just 10 days – on Saturday, 2 August – Skubala would not been drawn on what Erhahon's exclusion against Grimsby would mean for his place in the side that kicks the season off.

"We are not planning that far ahead," Skubala said.

"In the [transfer] window you want everything sorted sooner rather than later, but it is what it is."
