The high school football season around the country has wrapped up and with that comes honors for coaches and players from the 2025 season. One state out of the Northeast that is starting to produce some impressive talent and teams from around the country is New York high school football.

The New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA) state finals just ended last night and we decided to get right to it when it comes to end of the year honors.

We continue into the Empire State of New York as Rivals looked through the season and selected award nominees from this past season. Who were the best players for the 2025 season, though?

Rivals give you the New York high school football honorees for the 2025 season.

Player of the Year: Messiah Hampton, WR, Monroe

Something that Rochester City Schools hasn’t been able to lay the claim to is winning a state championship. Now, the City of Rochester can celebrate as one of their teams has brought home the title from the JMA Wireless Dome and leading the way on both sides of the ball all season long was Oregon signee. Messiah Hampton finished the 2025 season for the Red Jackets hauling in 62 passes for 1,224 yards and 13 touchdowns. The senior wide receiver was also utilized in the ground game at James Monroe, rushing for 289 yards on 12 attempts and finding the endzone four times. Also can’t discount what he did on the defensive side of the ball for the Red Jackets as Hampton totaled 87 tackles, defensed three passes and picked off three others. Hampton was the all-everything in helped lift Monroe to defeat Sleepy Hollow, 34-0, for the NYSPHSAA Class B state championship in Syracuse.

Offensive Player of the Year: Carson Miller, QB, Rye

Looking at overall productivity on the offensive side of the ball and finishing with a state championship in hand, Rye senior signal caller Carson Miller couldn’t be overlooked. The dual-threat quarterback was the engine that fueled the Rye Garnets to the NYSPHSAA Class A state championship, a 28-14 victory over Brighton. Miller ended the 2025 season completing 172 of 226 passes (76 percent) for 3545 yards and 38 touchdowns through the air. On the ground, Miller was the team’s second-leading rusher as the senior rushed for 963 yards on 105 carries and found the endzone 12 times. With Miller totaling over 4,000 all-purpose yards and 50 total touchdowns for Rye, his season was unmatched when it came to the game’s most important position.

Defensive Player of the Year: Brayden Richardson, ATH, Sleepy Hollow

When you get a player that made a generational impact for a high school football program, we had a tough time leaving Sleepy Hollow’s Brayden Richardson off of this list. Though Richardson impact was greatly felt on the offensive end, the Rhode Island signee was as equally instrumental to making plays on the defensive side of the ball for the NYSPHSAA Class B state finalists this past fall. Richardson finished the season making 47 total tackles, three going for a loss, six passes broken up with three interceptions, two of them being returned for touchdowns. Overall for the Headless Horsemen, Richardson compiled over 3,000 all-purpose yards and scored 42 touchdowns as Sleepy Hollow won their first-ever Section 1 championship.

Coach of the Year: Casey Brown, Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy

There was multiple coaches we considered for this honor, but continued coming back to what Casey Brown has done at Syracuse Christian Brothers Academy this past New York high school football season. Brown guided the program to its third straight NYSPHSAA Class AA state championship as the Brothers have won 42 consecutive games in the process. This most recent title was arguably the most dominant of them all as Christian Brothers Academy cruised to a 41-12 thrashing of Saratoga Springs in the state championship game. Only one game this season finished outside of winning by double digits as Brown navigated the team to domination on a weekly basis, out-scoring opponents by a combined 600-133 through the 14 games. Of the three straight titles, this recent one might be the most impressive of them all.
