FC Barcelona played their final game of 2025 this past Sunday, defeating Villarreal 2-0 away from home at Estadio de La Ceramica.
The Blaugrana did so without one of their most important players in Pedri, as he missed the game due to mild muscular discomfort, as confirmed by the club.
The midfielder picked up the issue during the Copa del Rey tie against CD Guadalajara and was unable to train with the group leading up to the Villarreal trip.
Pedri to resume training next week
Now, according to journalist Laia Tudel on Catalunya Radio, Pedri will be back training with the rest of the Barcelona squad next week, with the aim of being ready to face RCD Espanyol in the team’s first game of 2026.
Barcelona players are currently on a week-long vacation during the mid-season break, and the plan is for the squad to reconvene for training next Monday, 29 December.

As things stand, that is the date when Pedri is expected to resume training with the group, so that he can be fit and raring to go when the Catalan derby comes along on 3 January.
There were some concerns that the midfield ace might not make it in time for the game against Espanyol, but Barcelona insist that his problem is only minor discomfort and that his absence vs Villarreal was largely a precaution.
So, if everything goes according to plan, Barcelona will recover Pedri in training next week and get ready to take on their local rivals in the first game of 2026.
Barcelona are also hoping to have Ronald Araujo back in training next week, with the defender currently taking time off due to mental health issues.
