The Milwaukee Brewers generally do a good job of avoiding the overpays and holding on to their best prospects. As trade talks continue over these next 10 days to the Trade Deadline, the Brewers should keep these five prospects completely off-limits. The top prospect in the Brewers organization and perhaps one day the top prospect in all of baseball, Jesus Made should be nowhere near any trade discussions Milwaukee has this summer.
5 Brewers Prospects That Should Be Absolutely Untouchable at the 2025 Trade Deadline originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
There's an old saying that you have to give up something to get something. When it comes to MLB's Trade Deadline, it's especially true. Teams are desperate to make moves, price tags soar with so few sellers and so many wanting to buy.
The Milwaukee Brewers generally do a good job of avoiding the overpays and holding on to their best prospects. Sometimes that means they miss out on the biggest trade pieces out there. But in order for the small market Brewers to remain competitive year in and year out, they have to be judicious about which prospects they sell.
As trade talks continue over these next 10 days to the Trade Deadline, the Brewers should keep these five prospects completely off-limits.
- SS Jesus Made
The top prospect in the Brewers organization and perhaps one day the top prospect in all of baseball, Jesus Made should be nowhere near any trade discussions Milwaukee has this summer. The 18 year old is in Low-A Carolina, where he's hitting .273/.382/.399 with 18 doubles, four homers, and 39 stolen bases.
It's a plus hit tool and plus power for Made offensively, he also has plus speed and take advantage of it. Made is a superstar in the making and unless the Brewers are getting a proven superstar in return, he should absolutely be staying put in Milwaukee's system.
2. SS Luis Pena
Seemingly chasing down Made as the best prospect in the Brewers organization is Luis Pena, another signee from the 2024 international class. Pena has been even more impressive at the plate, hitting .316/.383/.485 with 12 doubles, six homers, and 38 stolen bases. He's also struck out just 13% of the time.
While Made got most of the headlines last season and into this year and is still ranked as the Brewers top prospect, Pena is not far behind him and his numbers are mighty impressive. He could be another superstar for the Brewers and unless there's a superstar coming back, GM Matt Arnold should laugh off any mention of his name from other teams in trade talks.
3. SS Cooper Pratt
This Brewers system is teeming with shortstops that have star potential. The most advanced of which at this point is 20 year old Cooper Pratt, who is in Double-A Biloxi.
Milwaukee swiped Pratt in the 6th round in 2023 with a $1.35MM signing bonus after most assumed he was going to college. It was a steal for the Brewers and he's been proving them right so far.
With an aggressive placement in Double-A this year, Pratt has been holding his own and could soon be a big league option for the Brewers in the infield. With the long-term starting shortstop job more than up for grabs, trading away your closest prospect competition for it doesn't seem like a move the Brewers should make.
4. RHP Logan Henderson
The Brewers have enviable depth in their starting rotation right now. It's so deep that even Logan Henderson, who made four big league starts where the Brewers won all of them and he had a 1.71 ERA, has not been able to get himself back in the majors.
If the Brewers are going to trade for a position of need, they generally trade from a position of depth and starting pitching is where they have depth and it's something a lot of teams will want. It's understandable if the Brewers trade from their crop of Triple-A arms to address the big league club, but Logan Henderson is one that Matt Arnold should steer himself away from trading.
We've seen how good he can be and good, controllable starting pitching is what the Brewers will need to be successful. Of the whole group of Triple-A starting pitchers, Henderson should be the most unavailable in discussions.
5. RHP Craig Yoho
Another Triple-A pitcher that should be unavailable is Craig Yoho. Yoho was a senior sign out of Indiana in 2023 in the 8th round and he quickly vaulted through the system and up the prospect rankings. He's dominated the minor leagues with an explosive fastball and a nasty changeup. He's gotten a little bit of run in the big leagues this year, but finds himself on the outside looking in presently.
That doesn't mean things won't change within that Brewers bullpen. Bullpens are always turning over and Yoho is a phone call away from the majors. With his nasty stuff, Yoho has the feeling of being that next Brewers bullpen arm that comes out of nowhere to just dominate the league.
This season for Triple-A Nashville, Yoho has a 0.87 ERA with 37 strikeouts and just 12 walks in 31 innings. He's going to be a key reliever for the Brewers for a number of years and now is absolutely not the time for the Brewers to trade him.
