Fresno State’s second half woes continued into the conference opener on Saturday against UNLV.

After building a 41-39 halftime lead over the host Rebels, the Bulldogs were outscored 45-31 in the second 20 minutes to lose 84-72.

Fresno State responded well after going down 27-11 in the first half. Connecting on seven baskets from three-point range, the Bulldogs fought their way back into it, eventually taking a 38-35 lead before the aforementioned halftime score.

In the second half, the Bulldogs hung around. Leading at one point by a score of 62-59 with less than eight minutes. UNLV proved to be more efficient, however, going 16-of-25 from the field to pull away in the second half, including 7-for-10 in the last eight minutes.

Fresno State did have four players in double figures, led by Wilson Jacques with 18 points. Jake Heidbreder added 17, while Zaon Collins finished with 15 and David Douglas Jr. came off the bench and chipped in 12 points.

The loss puts the Bulldogs at a 6-6 record on the season and 0-1 in the Mountain West Conference. Extending their losing streak to four.

Fresno State will get some time off prior to their next contest. They will take on Utah State on December 30th. The Aggies are 10-1 currently on the season and 1-0 in conference play.
