Verona is ready to try again for Tommaso Baldanzi in the January transfer window to strengthen their midfield.

The talented Poggibonsi native, already close to a move to Hellas Verona during the summer transfer window, could finally make the move to the Adige River, reuniting with his former coach Paolo Zanetti, who launched him into the top flight while coaching Empoli.

Zanetti was instrumental in his Serie A debut in August 2022.

Last summer, an agreement between the player and Verona seemed to be done, with Baldanzi poised to join Hellas.

However, the deal fell through at the last minute due to opposition from Roma, who, unable to sign Pessina from Monza, blocked the transfer.

As La Gazzetta dello Sport reports, however, in January Roma could open up to a new possibility: a loan with an option to buy.

Although other teams, such as Pisa, have shown interest in Baldanzi, Verona remains the player’s first choice. His good relationship with Zanetti, who knows him well, and the possibility of playing a central role for the Venetians make Hellas Verona the preferred destination for the attacking midfielder.

Baldanzi’s main quality is his adaptability. In addition to playing behind the strikers, he can also be deployed as an attacking winger, either on the right or left, or as a second striker or even as a false nine.

Although he hasn’t had much success in this position during his recent appearances for Roma, his versatility makes him a valuable player in any system.
