Some very strong words.
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has hit back at Real Madrid and Florentino Perez with some harsh words in a pre-Christmas speech.
Perez went on the attack earlier this week, calling the Negreira Case the ‘biggest scandal in football,’ and also criticising La Liga referees once again.
Laporta how now responded with strong very strong words and made his disdain for Los Blancos crystal clear.
“They are the ones who confuse power with despotism. They are the ones who practice cynicism and disproportionate arrogance. They are the ones who have a disgraceful television program that only spews lies and constantly and permanently poisons the atmosphere. To them I say that Barça is strong again, both on and off the pitch,” he said.
“The size we have generates an envy that is poorly handled by these people who, with underhanded tactics, disregard all codes of conduct, ethical and moral, and not just sporting ones, I mean in general.
“I imagine you know who I am referring to, those who are the architects of permanent campaigns to discredit our badge and our essence, and we will not allow this.”
Laporta also said that Madrid’s regular attacks will not harm Barcelona as he looked forward to a bright future for the club.
“Together we know that in every sporting, social, institutional and even economic action we leave our mark, as a respected, recognized, admired and beloved club,” he added.
“While they destroy and try to erase or distort history, they will not succeed. We are building, and we are building a glorious new chapter in Barça’s history that will once again reach glory and make history, and this is thanks to you, fundamentally.”
