Davis-Swain and Smith will look for new homes.
It’s only December 18, but it appears a mass exodus of Buffaloes from Boulder has begun, as key freshmen DT Brandon Davis-Swain and OL Carde Smith announced they plan to enter the transfer portal when it opens on January 2.
Davis-Swain’s departure is an important one for Colorado, as the redshirt freshman played a big part in Colorado’s rotation on the defensive line in 2025. After playing the second-most snaps of any CU interior defensive linemen last season, Davis-Swain tallied 15 tackles, 1.5 sacks, a forced fumble and a pass deflection. He’ll look for a new home with three years of eligibility remaining.
As for Smith, his departure is big for the program, but in a much different way. The true freshman was Colorado’s second-highest rated prep recruit in 2025 behind quarterback Julian Lewis, per Rivals. After playing in three games as a special teamer and redshirting in his first collegiate season, Smith was expected to step into a much larger role in CU’s offensive line next year. Instead, he’ll search for another opportunity elsewhere. He has four years of eligibility remaining.
With Smith and Davis-Swain leaving the program, that now marks five meaningful departures from Colorado via the transfer portal in the last three days. If any other news breaks, we’ll update you here at Ralphie Report.
