A big game is coming in 2026.
Barcelona star Lamine Yamal is set to come up against Lionel Messi for the very first time on the pitch when Spain take on Argentina in the Finalissima.
The game between the reigning European champions and the South American champions has finally been confirmed and will take place on March 27 at the Lusail Stadium in Qatar.
Argentina are the current holders after beating Italy the last time the match was played back in 2022.
The game promises to be an exciting one for fans and all the talk is likely to be about Yamal coming up against Messi.
Barcelona’s wonderkid has long had to put up with comparisons to the GOAT and has taken over his No. 10 shirt at the Camp Nou this season.
Yamal has spoken about the comparisons again recently and says Messi knows that he wants to be his own player.
“I respect him, in the end for what’s he’s been, for what he is to football, and if we ever meet on a pitch, there will be that mutual respect because we are players and because, for me, he’s the best in history,” he said.
“He also knows I am a player and I respect him, so it’s mutual respect. We both know I don’t want to be Messi and Messi knows I don’t want to be him. I want to follow my path and that’s it.”
The two stars haven’t met on the pitch before but famously did meet when Yamal was still in nappies. Messi posed with baby Yamal for a calendar photoshoot that subsequently went viral last year.
