The Longhorns landed two massive commitments last week.
Where Does Texas' 2026 Recruiting Class Rank? originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Texas Longhorns have been up and down on the recruiting trail over the last month.
A few key players that the Longhorns were targeting chose other programs at the last minute. Texas missed out on five-star offensive tackle Felix Ojo, four-star offensive tackle Malakai Lee, and four-star safety Chace Calicut among others.
In true "you win some, you lose some" fashion, Texas also capitalized on several significant commitments recently. Over the last week, the Longhorns flipped four-star defensive lineman James Johnson from Georgia and landed a massive commitment from five-star linebacker Tyler Atkinson.
Atkinson is ranked the No. 1 linebacker in the nation for the 2026 recruiting class and became the second-highest ranked commit in Texas' class behind only five-star quarterback Dia Bell.
The recent commits bumped Texas' class to No. 7 in the country per 247Sports. The Longhorns trail only Ohio State, Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas A&M, Georgia, and USC. Five of those programs have more commits than Texas. Head coach Steve Sarkisian continues to preach quality over quantity at this point of the recruiting cycle.
Sarkisian brought in the No. 1 overall class in 2025 and is on track to land another top-five class this year. The recent on-field success, player development, and NFL Draft success bodes well for Texas moving forward.
