Jalen Farmer declares for NFL Draft

A tough loss for Will Stein and Cutter Leftwich

Kentucky football offensive lineman Jalen Farmer is foregoing his final year of eligibility to declare for the NFL Draft.

Farmer started 24 consecutive games on the offensive line for the Wildcats after transferring from Florida after playing two seasons in Gainesville.

“My college football journey has been shaped by faith, growth, and the people who believed in me at every step,” Farmer wrote in an Instagram announcement about his future plans. “I’m thankful for each chapter and the lessons that came with it. … To the University of Kentucky, thank you for welcoming me and allowing me to continue chasing my goals. Wearing Kentucky across my chest and competing for Big Blue Nation has been an honor. Coach Stoops, thank you for your trust, consistency, and commitment to helping me grow both as a player and as a person. I’m also thankful for the entire coaching staff, support staff, and my teammates for the work, unity, and memories we built together.”

Farmer would’ve been a valuable piece to have on the offensive line with the departures of Shiyazh Pete, Joshua Braun, Jager Burton, and Alex Wollschlaeger.

Losing Farmer is a significant blow to Will Stein and new offensive line coach Cutter Leftwich. Farmer had significant SEC experience and two years of experience within the Kentucky program, which can’t easily be replaced.

One would have to imagine Kentucky will have to invest significantly in the offensive line when the transfer portal opens, while also hoping to see a big jump from some of the young offensive linemen already in the program.
