Colorado Buffaloes football’s Shedeur Sanders not going to Browns’ practice squad under any circumstance

Colorado Buffaloes football's Shedeur Sanders would not pass through the waiver system, so he's not going to end up on the Cleveland Browns' practice squad under any circumstances.

Colorado Buffaloes football legend Shedeur Sanders will almost certainly not end up on the Cleveland Browns’ practice squad after training camp and the preseason.

CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones reports that Sanders and Dillon Gabriel would be safe from being cut or traded if they don’t win the starting job this offseason. Kenny Pickett or Joe Flacco are not afforded that same luxury.

“If Dillon Gabriel wins the battle against Shedeur Sanders in the battle of the rookies, I actually don't see Shedeur Sanders going to the practice squad. If Shedeur Sanders beats Dillon Gabriel, I don't see Dillon Gabriel going to the practice squad. And I also don't see the Cleveland Browns keeping four quarterbacks on their 53-man roster,” Jones said, per On SI.

“Well, who goes? The answer to that is whoever is the loser of Joe Flacco versus Kenny Pickett. Andrew Berry, the general manager of the Cleveland Browns, he loathes cutting his draft picks. This is a team that always holds on to its draft picks far more than average NFL team.”

NFL insider Mike Garafolo is skeptical the team would hold onto four quarterbacks, striking a worried tone about whether Sanders or Gabriel makes it through the waiver system without being claimed.

“You’re not keeping four quarterbacks. You got four on the roster here…You traded for Kenny Pickett, then to just get rid of him doesn’t make much sense. You could have four quarterbacks in the building just not necessarily on the roster so I think that’s the way it’s going to play out. Which of those rookies can put stuff on tape in the preseason that makes it hard for the Browns to then subject one of them to get through waivers to get onto the practice squad,” Garafolo said.

The “Grown QB” may just be safer from being exiled from the organization than Flacco, who’s 40 years old and likely better off on a contender dealing with injury issues under center.

Sanders and Gabriel are almost certainly safe from being relegated to the practice squad, though.
