City Football Group (CFG), which owns Man City, is set to make millions from Manchester United’s signing of Bryan Mbeumo in the summer transfer window.

The Cameroon international’s move to Old Trafford was confirmed on Monday as he signed a five-year deal with the Red Devils.

United have shelled out an initial transfer fee of £65 million (€75m) to prise the 25-year-old away from Brentford, but that could rise to £71m (€81m) if potential add-ons are triggered.

The Bees drove a hard bargain to get as much money as possible from the deal, but they are not the only club to benefit from it.

ES Troyes AC, the team from which Brentford bought Mbeumo for just £5.85m in 2019, are due to receive €9.4m in total from this week’s transfer.

According to L’Est-éclair (via City Xtra), £6.4m (€7.4m) of that figure comes from the sell-on clause included in the deal six years ago, which would see the French outfit earn 10 per cent of the profit made on any future transfer. The other £1.7m (€2m) comes in the form of training compensation and solidarity payments.

Although Man City will not directly benefit from the deal, the two clubs fall under the same multi-club ownership structure.

CFG, a subsidiary of the Abu Dhabi United Group which purchased Man City in 2008, announced in September 2020 that they had bought a majority stake in Troyes AC. The club earned promotion in their first season under their new owners, but suffered back-to-back relegations in the following two years. They were reinstated to Ligue 2 after Bordeaux were demoted due to financial issues.

Man City bought Savinho from Troyes AC for a reported £30m transfer fee last summer. The Brazilian winger never played a game for the French side, and spent the 2023/24 campaign on loan with Girona, another CFG-owned club.
