What will the New York Yankees be able to accomplish at the trade deadline?
The New York Yankees need a momentum shifter right about now.
After their loss to the Toronto Blue Jays on Monday night, and a sloppy loss at that, the Yankees face a season-worst four-game deficit in the American League East. If they can manage to hold onto a playoff spot, they'd still look like long shots entering the playoffs if they kept their current, flawed roster.
Third base is arguably the biggest flaw of all, as demonstrated by Oswald Peraza's .150 batting average and game-changing error on Monday. If the Yankees could turn that weakness into a strength, they might be able to make a second-half charge at the Blue Jays.
And because the Yankees typically make a big effort to get the players they want, one analyst sees them getting not only the biggest third base bat on the market, but the biggest bat, period.
On Monday, Steve Perrault of Underdog Fantasy predicted during a Bleacher Report live stream that the Yankees would acquire Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Eugenio Suárez.
"It's been reported that the Yankees are interested in Suárez. That's not like breaking news or anything, I think most teams would be interested in getting the bat of Eugenio Suárez," Perrault said.

"I fully expect it's gonna happen. He's on pace for 57 homers this year and 138 RBIs... The haul you could get for this guy for two months of his services, and if you're a Yankee fan, you're hoping three months, would be massive."
Hours after the stream aired, Suárez hit his 36th home run of the year. But the Diamondbacks also lost, bringing them back under .500 with 61 games to go. Arizona also has a potential heir to the third base throne in top prospect Jordan Lawlar.
If Suárez gets traded, the Yankees still will face tough competition from other contenders to land him. But... they're the Yankees. And they've got some real prospect capital to work with this year, so a deal should be achievable.
