NBA investigation into Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. complete

The NBA handed down a suspension for Kevin Porter Jr.'s 2023 alleged domestic violence incident but considers the Bucks guard has served it.

Late last week the NBA officially concluded its investigation into Milwaukee Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr.’salleged domestic violence incident on Sept. 11, 2023, and issued a four-game suspension.

A league spokesman added that, “based on the facts and circumstances, the NBA and NBPA (National Basketball Players Association) have agreed that the suspension is deemed to have been served.”

Following his arrest in September 2023, Porter was waived by the Oklahoma City Thunder on Oct. 18 and did not play in the NBA for the entire 2023-24 season.

Bucks guard Kevin Porter Jr. was given a four-game suspension for an alleged domestic violence incident but the NBA considers it served since he didn't play in the league in the 2023-24 season.

There is precedent for a suspension being considered served after a player didn't play a season, as Charlotte’s Miles Bridges missed the entire 2022-23 campaign following an alleged domestic violence incident. The league handed down a 30-game suspension in April 2023 but Bridges was given credit for 20 games served.

Porter played briefly in Greece in the spring of 2024 before returning to the NBA for the 2024-25 season after signing a free agent deal with the Los Angeles Clippers.

On Jan. 23, 2025 Porter’s criminal record was cleared after he fulfilled the terms of a plea agreement.

The Bucks acquired Porter in a trade with the Clippers on Feb. 6. In 30 appearances (two starts) in Milwaukee, Porter played about 20 minutes per game and shot 49.4% from the field and 40.8% from behind the three-point line, numbers which would easily be career bests for a season.

In the first playoff games of his career, Porter averaged 11.2 points and 5.4 assists against Indiana.

He signed a two-year, $10.5 million deal in July to return to the Bucks.
