Entering the summer, the Warriors' biggest headline was Jonathan Kuminga as a restricted free agent. The 22-year-old forward remains unsigned, which has left Golden State from making any other moves.
Kuminga wants two things: a chance to achieve his All-Star potential and a nice payday.
The Warriors aren't in a position to pay a young player based on potential. Stephen Curry, Jimmy Butler and Draymond Green leave the franchise in a position to win a title, but not without win-now moves to capitalize on the latter years of their careers.
Whether it be a return to the Bay Area for a shorter term, or a sign-and-trade -- the Warriors coming to a conclusion on Kuminga's situation will allow them to explore additional deals to add shooting, size and depth.
Golden State has recently been linked to a nine-year NBA veteran and former Rookie of the Year winner. According to Jake Fischer, in a recent Bleacher Report live stream, the Warriors are among a few teams showing interest in Malcolm Brogdon -- a top free agent guard.
Brogdon spent last season with the rebuilding Washington Wizards. At this juncture in his career, he's better off playing for a winning team with a chance to contribute and add depth.
On top of the Wizards undergoing a youth movement, they don't have the roster space to return Brogdon at the moment.
With a likely move in free agency, Brogdon joining a win-now team makes sense, and joining the Warriors would allow him the chance to compete for a title.
Brogdon -- a Rookie of the Year and Sixth Man of the Year award winner -- is also receiving interest from the Sacramento Kings, New Orleans Pelicans and Minnesota Timberwolves. He will have a difficult decision here, as he has to weigh playing time, impact and ability to compete for a title.
