Meet the nominees for Press-Citizen’s Athletes of the Week, July 14-20

Here are the nominees for the Press-Citizen's high school Athletes of the Week for July 14-20.

Iowa City High and Iowa City Liberty were the only two Iowa City-area schools to advance to the Iowa high school state baseball tournament this past week. No area teams qualified for the state softball tournament.

Here are the nominees for the Iowa City Press-Citizen's high school Athletes of the Week for July 14-20. Press-Citizen.com readers vote to decide this week's winners. Voting closes at 8 p.m. Thursday.

Athletes are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

Girls

Iowa City High's Eliza Mitchell (13) is a nominee for girls Athlete of the Week.

Eliza Mitchell, Soph., Iowa City High

Mitchell drove in a run during City High softball's 7-6 loss to Cedar Falls in the Class 5A regional final on July 15.

Mitchell recorded an RBI, a hit and a run against the Tigers.

Clear Creek Amana's Turner Patrick (2) is a nominee for girls Athlete of the Week.

Despite a 5-1 loss to North Scott in the 4A regional final, Patrick managed to earn a hit for Clear Creek Amana softball on July 15.

The Clippers totaled three hits against the Lancers and Patrick had hers in the sixth inning.

Iowa City Liberty's Audrey Robertson (12) is a nominee for girls Athlete of the Week.

Despite an 8-2 loss to Linn-Mar in the 5A regional final, Robertson made big plays for Liberty softball.

Robertson recorded an RBI single that tied the game, 1-1, before she plated the go-ahead run in the fourth inning.

Clear Creek Amana's Elizabeth Timmerman (18) is a nominee for girls Athlete of the Week.

Timmerman scored the only run of the game for CCA softball during its 5-1 loss to North Scott in the 4A regional final.

Timmerman opened the Clippers lineup with a single and capitalized on a passed ball by North Scott to plate a run in the first inning.

Iowa City High's Eve Vitense (left) is a nominee for girls Athlete of the Week.

Despite a 7-6 loss to Cedar Falls, Vitense recorded a strong performance in the Class 5A regional final.

Vitense cranked a three-run home run in the seventh inning against the Tigers. She totaled five RBIs and three hits.

Boys

Iowa City Liberty's Cooper Hughes (8) is a nominee for boys Athlete of the Week.

Hughes helped lift Liberty baseball past Linn-Mar in the Class 4A substate final on July 16.

Hughes tallied two RBIs, two doubles and a run.

Solon's Nolan Seagren (8) is a nominee for boys Athlete of the Week.

Robert Meade, Sr., Clear Creek Amana

Meade pitched a complete game during CCA baseball’s 3-0 substate semifinal win over Xavier on July 14.

Meade tossed seven strikeouts in a seven-hit shutout.

Iowa City High's Jaxton Schroeder (22) is a nominee for boys Athlete of the Week.

Jaxton Schroeder, Sr., Iowa City High

Schroeder threw a seven-inning gem during City High baseball’s 1-0 substate final win over Indianola on July 16.

The 6-foot-5 senior tossed nine strikeouts in the three-hit shutout.

Iowa City Liberty's Mason Waterbury (11) is a nominee for boys Athlete of the Week.

Mason Waterbury, Sr., Iowa City Liberty

Waterbury patrolled the mound during Liberty baseball’s 6-5 substate final win over Linn-Mar.

Waterbury allowed 10 hits but tallied six strikeouts across six innings of work. He also earned a hit against the Lions.

Iowa City High's Talon Young (21) is a nominee for boys Athlete of the Week.

Talon Young, Sr. Iowa City High

Young scored the only run of the game during City High’s 1-0 substate final win over Indianola.

Young hit an RBI single in the fifth inning.
