Katherine’s love notes fuel Fitzpatrick’s chase.
Matt Fitzpatrick's Wife Katherine Sends Personal Message Before Final Rounds at The Open originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Matt Fitzpatrick carded a steady 66 in Friday’s second round at Royal Portrush to climb to 9‑under par, sitting just one shot behind leader Scottie Scheffler as the tournament moves into Saturday’s third round.
His consistent ball‑striking and deft putting have him firmly in contention for a first Claret Jug, and the Englishman heads into moving day focused on maintaining momentum in front of a roaring links crowd.
But it isn’t just pre‑shot routine keeping Fitzpatrick’s spirits high. Before teeing off on Saturday, his wife Katherine sent a surprising nine‑word message under his Instagram update.
“This week a hot new bombshell enters the villa,” she wrote.
The playful comment complemented Fitzpatrick's post, which read, “Fun few days of golf! Looking forward to the next two days in front of an incredible crowd at Royal Portrush. @theopen.”
The man performed a magic show in front of the British crowd, making birdie after birdie to be in contention on Saturday, playing really good links golf. Fitzpatrick's effort didn't go unnoticed.
Katherine posted a photo of the couple embracing on the course, simply captioned “Fitzmagic.”
Their on‑course chemistry isn’t new. The pair married last year in a coastal ceremony, and Katherine’s Instagram is full of tributes to their life together. After their nuptials, she shared a snap of them walking down the aisle with the caption, “Best day of our lives 🤍.”
And before Thursday’s opening round, Katherine didn’t just cheer from the gallery. She personalized Matt’s golf balls with tiny red hearts and short notes, ensuring he’d carry a bit of home with him on every tee shot.
On some, she wrote “MF IS CUTE” in neatbold red letters while on others the message shifted to personal “I LOVE YOU”s stretched across the dimpled surface. Finally, she adorned the remaining balls with “XO,” encircled by little hearts sketched in the same red ink.
Her unique way of supporting the golfer captured the heart of the fans on the internet and also might be the reason behind Fitzpatrick's Friday magic, or like she said, "Fitzmagic".
