Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer will stand for re-election later this year, the Bundesliga champions said in a statement on Monday.

Hainer took over the position from Uli Hoeness at the 2019 general meeting and has been a member of the Bayern supervisory board since 2002.

"It’s an honour for me to be president of FC Bayern, and I would be delighted if the advisory board were to nominate me as a candidate again," he said.

The advisory board assesses and nominates candidates for the executive board and will meet on September 5.

"I stood in the stands as a fan even as a young boy. I feel it’s a great responsibility for all of us to continuously develop this club with its unique fan community together so that everyone can be proud of our FC Bayern," Hainer said.

This year's general meeting will be held on the weekend of October 31 to November 2. The exact date and time will be confirmed once the German Football League have scheduled Bayern's fixture at home to Bayer Leverkusen that weekend, the club said.
