According to an update shared by AS, it has come to light that Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso will wait until the end of pre-season to make a final decision on Gonzalo Garcia’s immediate future.

The 21-year-old striker, who became the breakout star of the FIFA Club World Cup, is at the centre of transfer speculation after finishing the tournament as the top scorer with four goals.

Gonzalo’s performances caught the attention of several clubs across Spain and England, and with Real Madrid already stacked in the attacking department, a loan move is now being considered.

One of the most interested parties is Getafe, where club president Angel Torres has made signing Gonzalo a top priority.

Getafe eager but competition growing

Earlier this month, Getafe president Angel Torres publicly stated: “We’ve had an agreement with Gonzalo for a month and a half. If he doesn’t stay at Real Madrid, he’ll come to Getafe.”

At the time, the move seemed simple. But since then, the situation has become much more complicated.

Gonzalo’s success at the Club World Cup has changed everything. His representatives were surprised by the confidence in Torres’ comments, especially as interest in the striker has skyrocketed.

Offers have been pouring in, including several from Premier League clubs who are also keen to sign the young talent.

For now, Gonzalo remains on holiday, and he is expected to rejoin Real Madrid training on August 4.

He will complete the pre-season with the first team under Alonso, who will assess whether the striker should stay at the club for the 2025/26 season or leave on loan to gain more experience.

If Alonso decides a temporary move is best for Gonzalo’s development, Getafe will be first in line, but they will face stiff competition from other clubs in Spain and abroad.
