It seems like Tarik Skubal isn't going to be the only Tigers pitcher to give the team a boost in the second half.
It may not seem that the Detroit Tigers are in dire need of assistance on the diamond right now, given that they do possess the best record in the American League right now.
Tarik Skubal is still in his Cy Young-winning form, Riley Greene, Gleyber Torres, and Javier Baez are fresh off All-Star starts and are still producing with the efficiency that has gotten Detroit to the point they've gotten to now.
And now, all the team has to do is keep the ball rolling from the first half to the second and avoid whatever potential midseason collapse could affect their playoff hopes, and that includes figuring out their bullpen pitching situation, one of few negatives for the team this season so far.
However, it may seem that the true answer to the Tigers' problems isn't even in the major leagues right now.
RHP Troy Melton was named as the team's breakout candidate for the second half of the 2025 season by Joel Reuter of Bleacher Report.
Melton, 24, has boasted a 3.15 earned run average in the minors this ear with 93 strikeouts in 71.1 innings so far, and Reuter believes that Melton's repertoire could be used in short bullpen stints for the team, or also as a bulk option, similar to how the team used Jackson Jobe last year during their playoff run.
Except this time, the team will be looking for a World Series run.
