Nation’s No. 2 WR Makes Huge Decision on His Recruitment

Jase Mathews, the second-highest rated uncommitted WR in the 2026 class, will make his decision between the Auburn Tigers and three others next month.

Nation’s No. 2 WR Makes Huge Decision on His Recruitment originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Jase Mathews’ future will soon become clear. The No. 11 receiver in Rivals’ Class of 2026 is down to four programs, including Hugh Freeze’s Auburn Tigers, and will announce his decision on Aug. 8.

Mathews is the second-most highly touted wideout yet to commit in Rivals’ rankings. Jordan Clay, the No. 9 receiver in the crop, also hasn’t made his choice. Mathews’ finalists also include Brian Kelly’s LSU Tigers, Mike Elko’s Texas A&M Aggies and Lane Kiffin’s Ole Miss Rebels. Mathews has taken official visits to Deion Sanders and Colorado, Auburn and Texas A&M.

Unfortunately for Freeze and his coaching staff, they missed out on Cederian Morgan, rated second on Rivals’ list, earlier this month. An Alexander City, Ala., native, Morgan opted instead to join Auburn’s biggest rivals — Ryan Williams, Kalen DeBoer and the Alabama Crimson Tide. The Tigers are still missing a receiver commitment in their 2026 haul, making Mathews an important focus.

He totaled 1,138 receiving yards and 15 touchdown grabs on 68 catches last season at Greene County High School (Miss.).

“Dynamic slot receiver who wins with outstanding short area quickness and route creativity that also possesses a (flair) for the occasional acrobatic catch or two every Friday night,” 247Sports national recruiting analyst Cooper Petagna wrote. “Projects as a high level Power Four impact starter that possesses the separation and playmaking ability to make an impact early on Saturdays.”

Auburn has also offered 247Sports four-star Joel Wyatt and three-stars Jonah Winston and BJ Bedgood.
