Cubs' Kyle Tucker Sounds Non-Committal on Future in Chicago

Chicago Cubs outfielder Kyle Tucker sounds non-committal about his long-term future in the Windy City.

Cubs' Kyle Tucker Sounds Non-Committal on Future in Chicago originally appeared on Athlon Sports.

Kyle Tucker recently represented the Chicago Cubs at the 2025 MLB All-Star Game in Atlanta, showcasing why he's one of the top players in baseball.

Tucker, however, might only have one year representing the Cubs in the prestigious event.

The left-handed hitting outfielder is set to hit the free agency market at the end of the campaign, and many believe that other teams could be heavily involved.

While the Cubs will also show interest in keeping him around, another team could outbid them.

Ultimately, this will be Tucker's decision, and when speaking with the Chicago Sun-Times, this was the first time he was somewhat non-committal about his future.

He noted that there’s likely not much chance of an extension happening this summer, but didn't rule it out.

“You never know,” he said. “Things can change at any point. I’m just kind of riding it out and we’ll see how things go. Just trying to do my job in the field and let other stuff take care of itself.”

When later asked if you wanted to be an All-Star again in Chicago, he twice said, “Yeah, why not?”

“Yeah, why not?” he said again. “They’ve been very open with me and other players. … We have a really good environment, not just in the clubhouse but also the front office, coaching staff and everything. We’ve got a good group over there.”

This could certainly be Tucker being smart with the situation, as he doesn't want to put too many eggs in one basket.

However, it doesn't sound like an extension is anywhere close, and that's somewhat concerning.
