Tyler Black gets his first shot at the big leagues in 2025 as Jake Bauers goes on injured list

Considered one of Milwaukee’s top prospects as recently as last year, Tyler Black is back in the majors after a trying start to 2025.

LOS ANGELES — It’s been a trying year for Tyler Black

A rough spring training ended in painful fashion as he broke his hammate bone swinging the final week of camp. After missing nearly two months, he struggled upon returning to Class AAA Nashville.

But now, he has a chance to make that all old news.

Black is back in the big leagues as the Milwaukee Brewers placed Jake Bauers on the 10-day injured list with a left shoulder impingement.

Tyler Black of the Milwaukee Brewers bats during a game against the Los Angeles Dodgers at American Family Field on August 14, 2024, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Considered one of the Brewers top few prospects as recently as last year, Black made his MLB debut last season and produced a .561 OPS in 18 games. He was batting just .191 with a .604 OPS at Nashville this year at the time of his call-up July 20. As of six games ago, he was hitting .123 with a .438 OPS, but is 9 for his last 24 at-bats with two homers since.

Bauers, meanwhile, had been dealing with some shoulder discomfort for a while and it was beginning to affect his play. Since June 1, he is just 5 for 48 with only two extra-base hits.
