Corona's Seth Hernandez was the first California high school star selected, going sixth overall to the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Crazy as it sounds, it was merely business as usual last weekend as 20 California high school baseball stars in the Class of 2025 were selected in the 2025 MLB Draft.
10 of them were right-handed pitchers and six were shortstops.
The Milwaukee Brewers led the way with four California prep selections. And if that seems peculiar, it's for good reason. Four of the Brewers top hitters – Christian Yelich (Westlake), Rhys Hoskins (Jesuit), Joey Ortiz (Pacifica-Garden Grove), Brice Turang (Santiago-Corona) – played high school baseball in California.
The Kansas City Royals were next with three selections of California high school stars, and both Chicago teams grabbed two California kids.
Below is a list of all 20 California high school seniors/recent graduates to get picked in the 2025 MLB Draft. Note that this list does not include former California high school baseball products who attended college before getting drafted this summer.
