Here's why the Philadelphia 76ers star Joel Embiid doesn't regret his actions against the team insider.
No Regrets For Joel Embiid Following the Altercation With 76ers Columnist originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
Aside from the injuries that Joel Embiid sustained, the 2024-25 NBA season wasn't easy for the Philadelphia 76ers star. Leading up to the campaign, Embiid gained attention due to his health. While most of the concern was about the setbacks he's had due to injury, the star center thought a 76ers columnist took it too far.
Marcus Hayes published an article about Embiid, mentioning the NBA star's son and late brother. The 2023 MVP didn't like how his family was dragged into his injury situation. On Nov. 2, the star center pushed Hayes while in the locker room after a loss against the Memphis Grizzlies.
Because of the altercation between Embiid and the media member, the league issued a three-game suspension. The punishment delayed his regular-season debut.
Several months have passed since the event. However, Embiid revealed that he wouldn't change a thing about how he reacted, showing no regrets. ESPN's Dotun Akintoye talked to the star player on Wednesday and asked the seven-time All-Star about it.
"I don't care if the NBA wants to fine me $1 million, $2 million, $5 million, $10 million, I would still do it," Embiid says. "If he walked up to me just like he did, I would push him away again."
Embiid's interaction with the media member was just one of the problems he faced last season. The five-time All-NBA star had to deal with a closed-door meeting, and the details of the team's gathering were leaked.
According to various reports, Embiid's co-star, Tyrese Maxey, called him out for his tardiness. Following that, the start of a difficult and injury-filled campaign for the Cameroonian star and his team ensued.
