Here are three remaining free agents the Oklahoma City Thunder could target this offseason.
3 Remaining Free Agents the Oklahoma City Thunder Could Target This Offseason originally appeared on Athlon Sports.
The Oklahoma City Thunder have had a quiet offseason thus far as they are still celebrating their first championship since relocating to Oklahoma City.
So far this summer, the Thunder have added only two new players to their roster which came in the NBA draft as they have instead focused on locking in their start trio for the foreseeable future.
Oklahoma City signed Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams and Chet Holmgren to max contract extensions that combined for $822 million as they made it a priority to lock in their young core after they helped lead them to a title.
While the Thunder have been quiet in free agency thus far, they could still elect to make moves and here are three remaining free agents they could target.
Russell Westbrook
A reunion between Westbrook and the Thunder is unlikely to happen this offseason but it would be a great story for both franchises and could also lead to the former MVP finally having another shot at winning his first title.
Westbrook would be a solid addition off the bench for the Thunder behind Shai but with their guard depth and Nikola Topic coming back from injury, he would likely not have as large of a role as he would get with other franchises.
Ben Simmons
Simmons would be an interesting addition to the Thunder’s roster but he does fit their team due to his defensive prowess.
Of course, the former first overall pick is no longer the All-Star he once was but he is still a solid inside scorer and great defender and playmaker.
Gary Payton II
Like Simmons, Payton II also fits Oklahoma City’s system due to his defensive abilities, though he is a better shooter than Simmons is.
Payton II is a solid shooter who would give the Thunder another defensive-minded guard off the bench.
While the Thunder could target these three players, they will likely keep their current roster how it is as they try to win back-to-back championships next season.
