Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders visiting Florida for non-recruiting reason

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders is visiting the state of Florida, but just to see his son Shilo at Tampa Bay Buccaneers practice.

Colorado Buffaloes football coach Deion Sanders is visiting the state of Florida, but not for a recruiting visit.

Instead, he’ll be visiting his son, Shilo, who was signed as an undrafted free agent to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this offseason.

"I’m going to try my best to run a plane and come down and see you, then go see Shedeur, then go to work. Send me a schedule of the time of practice,” Coach Prime told Shilo in a video the Bucs safety posted to his YouTube channel.

IMG Academy is only an hour away. The entire state is worth visiting. Florida had the second-most recruits in the 2025 On3 rankings.

Coach Prime won’t, though. And it might not matter.

As USA Today’s Brent Schrotenboer revealed, recruits admitted to not being bothered by Deion’s in-person absence before committing.

“USA TODAY Sports discussed this with recruits who said they were told that Sanders was out sick when they visited. None said Sanders’ absence played a role in their decisions,” Schrotenboer wrote.

“Despite his absence, Colorado has been on a roll lately with three new commitments from recruits since July 10, including four-star linebacker Rodney Colton Jr. from Georgia. In Colton’s case, it didn’t matter if Sanders wasn’t on campus when he visited Boulder in June. Sanders talked to him by phone instead.”

Those were just the recruits who said yes. Countless others likely won’t consider Colorado because Coach Prime could only be caught on the phone.

Maybe it will matter to great recruits that Sanders will take a plane ride to visit an NFL practice and not go to their hometown.
