Liverpool have reached a broad agreement with Eintracht Frankfurt to sign French forward Hugo Ekitike, according to The Athletic.
The 23-year-old prolific attacker, who scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances last season, is set to move to Anfield after personal terms with Liverpool were agreed earlier this week.
Negotiations between Liverpool and Frankfurt have been productive over the last few days, and while there is still some work to do to iron out the finer details, a total package north of €95 million is currently being discussed.
Ekitike’s recent performances have drawn attention across Europe, sparking a transfer race primarily between Liverpool and Newcastle United.
Newcastle had a club-record £70 million bid rejected for Ekitike, who made clear his preference to join Liverpool as soon as the Premier League champions formally declared their interest.
While Frankfurt would have liked to keep hold of Ekitike, especially after the departure of Omar Marmoush in January, Liverpool’s offer is too good to turn down and could eclipse Die Adler’s record sale.
Ekitike’s omission from Eintracht Frankfurt’s first preseason friendly has fuelled speculation he is being rested to avoid injury in anticipation of the transfer.
Barring any unforeseen twists, Ekitike would be Liverpool’s sixth signing of the summer, but the Reds could be in the market for another addition soon.
Luis Diaz is currently a transfer target for Bayern Munich, and while Liverpool have rejected the Bavarians’ first offer, they are set to return with an improved bid, with the player keen on a move.
Should Liverpool eventually opt to sell Diaz, a replacement will be expected, and Real Madrid’s Rodrygo has been heavily touted as a strong candidate.
