Pirates boldly predicted to trade All-Star pitcher and Gold Glover

The Pittsburgh Pirates are a mess and will surely sell whoever they can at the trade deadline.

The Pittsburgh Pirates are one of the worst teams in Major League Baseball and have been a mess for quite some time.

The Pirates are just 39-59, but the team is only six games under .500 under manager Don Kelly.

Paul Skenes is one of the most exciting players in MLB history, yet he is 4-8 because the Pirates give him little-to-no run support.

They don’t give any of their pitchers run support for that matter. Former All-Star Mitch Keller is 3-10 this year despite pitching well all season long.

Staff members of The Athletic made bold predictions for each team going into the trade deadline, with the Pirates selling two big names.

Keller and Gold Glove-winning third baseman Ke’Bryan Hayes are expected to be on the move.

Keller, 29, is having another great season for the Pirates despite a brutal record. He has a 3.48 ERA and a 1.14 WHIP in 20 starts, with 14 of them being quality.

Hayes, 28, isn’t having a good season but is still a trade candidate. The former Gold Glover has just two home runs and 31 RBI while slashing a bleak .236/.281/.290 in 90 games.

“The money is not coming. If it were, Bob Nutting would have authorized a payroll spike before this season. Instead, they’ll reallocate resources,” wrote Stephen J. Nesbitt. “I see Keller (owed $54.5 million from 2026-28) and Hayes ($36 million guaranteed from 2026-30) as imminently tradeable. I expect them to go.”

Keller should warrant a nice haul, while Pittsburgh will try to get anything they can for Hayes.

Pittsburgh needs to acquire high-upside prospects and continue to rebuild.
