NBA insider Jake Fischer recently reported that former NBA All-Star Ben Simmons remains on the Knicks' radar.
After already making numerous upgrades in free agency, the New York Knicks still find themselves with an open roster spot heading into next season. As they survey their options, they remain connected to a former All-Star still without a home for 2026.
One of the more interesting names among the remaining pool of free agents is three-time All-Star Ben Simmons. Though he's never returned to the caliber of player he was with the Philadelphia 76ers, he can still be a versatile piece in the right role. Simmons is coming off a season where he averaged 5.0 PPG, 4.7 RPG, and 5.6 APG in 51 games with the Brooklyn Nets and LA Clippers.
Over the past few weeks, there have been numerous reports about the Knicks keeping tabs on Simmons. According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the former No. 1 pick remains on their radar as they look to fill their final roster spot.
"For Ben Simmons, the two teams we're hearing for him still are Sacramento and New York," Fischer said on a livestream for Bleacher Report earlier this week. "We are still anticipating the Kings to be bringing in another veteran guard, and Ben Simmons is on that list of potential targets in addition to Russell Westbrook, to Malcolm Brogdon."
In terms of fit, Simmons is someone who could help keep the offense moving in a backup role behind Jalen Brunson. While he isn't much of a scoring threat, he is still an effective playmaker with a high basketball IQ. Simmons could be a floor general for the Knicks' second unit, allowing guys like fellow new addition Jordan Clarkson to focus more on scoring.
Based on all the developments regarding Simmons and the Knicks, it seems there's a chance New York could roll the dice on him in hopes of bolstering their roster.
