The Chicago Sky did not fare well in a recent WNBA ranking.

The Chicago Sky stumbled in the first part of the 2025 WNBA season, as they carry a 7-15 record into the All-Star break. This puts them in 11th place in the league standings and 4.0 games out of the playoff picture.

Although they did earn a marquee win over the Minnesota Lynx last week, who are 20-4 and atop the WNBA standings, the Sky started the season 3-10. They have had to reshuffle their rotation and starting lineup multiple times due to injuries and players missing time.

Chicago's young duo of Angel Reese and Kamilla Cardoso is considered one of the strongest in the league. Both made the All-Rookie team last season, and Reese has earned two All-Star nods in as many years.

However, according to The Athletic's Sabreena Merchant and Ben Pickman, the future of the Sky is still bleak compared to the other franchises in the WNBA.

According to their future franchise rankings, Chicago ranks ninth in the league out of 13 teams, meaning it only has a brighter future than four other organizations.

"The recent string of success for forward Angel Reese should help elevate the Sky’s ceiling in future seasons. Questions, though, remain about the rest of the organization’s future. The Athletic’s anonymous player poll ranked Chicago as the worst-run organization. Although their ownership group appears to be investing more than ever, other teams still earn higher marks in that category, too. The young core beyond Reese also has question marks."

Last season, the Sky earned a 13-27 record and missed out on the postseason under head coach Teresa Weatherspoon. The year before that, the team had a losing record once again, but snuck into the playoffs and got blown out by the Las Vegas Aces in the first round.

Chicago does not own its first-round pick in 2026 either, as various trades have netted them pick swaps with teams like the Connecticut Sun and Phoenix Mercury.
