Texas Longhorns redshirt sophomore quarterback Arch Manning is heading into his first season as the school’s starter and has gained some traction from fans.

Manning made nine appearances as a freshman and threw for 939 yards, nine touchdowns and two interceptions on a 67.8 % completion percentage. He also impressed Texas fans with his rushing ability by recording 108 yards and four touchdowns.

Furthermore, fans think Manning has what it takes to succeed as the Longhorns quarterback since he is surrounded by talented teammates such as halfback CJ Baxter and wide receivers Isaiah Bond, Johntay Cook II and Ryan Wingo.

Manning followed the high expectations he’s received from fans by being humble, confident and composed during his press conference on Wednesday at the SEC Media Day.

“I’ve only played in two games, so I have a lot to prove,” Manning told reporters. “I’m ready to play. Ready to grow and operate the offense to continue and move the ball forward and score touchdowns.”

Manning noted that he seeks advice from his grandfather, former NFL quarterback Archie Manning. He also claimed he learned from his uncles and NFL legends Peyton and Eli Manning.

“You can reach out and they are supporters of you, but I’ve always dreamed of playing in the SEC, so it’s a dream come true,” Manning added. “Got to go play well.”

Manning’s performance in front of the media earned a reaction from former NFL punter and podcast host Pat McAfee. “I’ll let you know the young buck handled it like a pro,” McAfee said during a recent episode of the “Pat McAfee Show.”

“He took the Manning PR playbook, humble and excited for the moment,” he added. “Showed appreciation for his teammates, and it’s like Texas has got a guy.”

McAfee said he’s excited to see how Manning will perform against the reigning national champion Ohio State Buckeyes in Week 1. “Arch Manning in Columbus to kickoff the entire game day slate, let’s go,” he concluded.
