Alexander Isak’s future at Newcastle United is uncertain as fresh interest from abroad sparks speculation over a potential summer move.
When Alexander Isak signed for Newcastle United from Real Sociedad in the summer of 2022, not many could have predicted how quickly he would become the heartbeat of the Magpies attack.
The Swedish striker has not only brought 62 goals (109 games) in volume but also delivered them with a style that shows both elegance and purpose.
Under Eddie Howe’s guidance, he has grown into one of the most exciting forwards in the Premier League, quietly earning admirers from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Earlier this month, Liverpool made their interest known. With Arne Slot looking to strengthen his frontline ahead of a demanding season, the Anfield side reached out to Newcastle to discuss a potential deal worth close to £120m [$160m].
While there was no formal bid on the table, the approach was serious enough to trigger a quick and firm response from Newcastle’s hierarchy, who insisted Isak was not for sale.
The Reds, aware of the stance, have since switched focus and are now in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike.
The former PSG forward had long been on Newcastle’s radar but now looks increasingly likely to end up at Anfield instead.
And while the Premier League threat might have faded for now, a new and potentially more complicated situation is beginning to unfold.
Saudi club eye Alexander Isak amid Newcastle uncertainty
Al-Hilal, the Saudi Pro League runners-up backed by the Public Investment Fund that also owns Newcastle, are targeting a marquee striker this summer.
According to Foot Mercato, Saudi Club have now set their sights on Alexander Isak, who has given the ‘green light’ for the move, with the striker’s agents in talks with the club.
Although Alexander Isak is not forcing for a move, the striker is frustrated with Newcastle, especially after the club reportedly failed to deliver a promised wage increase last season, according to The Express.
He is currently on £130,000 [$174,000] per week, but contract talks have stalled despite offers to make him the club’s highest-paid player on more than £200,000 [$268,000] per week.
