Yankees cut ties with new pitcher after just 1 game

Rico Garcia is moving on.

It's been a bumpy stretch for Rico Garcia in the life of a journeyman reliever.

The New York Yankees just acquired him from the Mets earlier this week. And he pitched in one game.

And now, the Yanks have designated him for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster and putting him back onto waivers.

Garcia threw 2.2 innings Friday night, allowing three runs.

He threw 53 pitches, pretty much eliminating his chance of staying on the roster. Allan Winans is called up in his place.

Garcia had lasted just two outings (4.2 innings) with the Mets.

He's 31 years old , out of Honolulu. The Rockies picked him in the 30th round of the 2016 draft after he starred at Hawaii Pacific University.

He has pitched for seven different teams in five scattered seasons: the Rockies in 2019, the Giants in 2020, the Orioles in 2022, the Athletics and Nationals in 2023 and now the Mets and Yankees.

And the journeyman reliever life goes on.
