Optimism surrounding the Pelicans' 2025 draft class was met with disappointment after the team's 0-5 showing in the NBA 2K26 Summer League.
LAS VEGAS — Optimism surrounding the Pelicans’ 2025 draft class was met with disappointment after the team’s 0-5 showing in the NBA 2K26 Summer League.
The winless mark comes after a 113-104 loss to the Pacers in their finale.
To make matters worse, the injury bug that derailed the team’s promising 2024-25 season traveled with the summer squad to Las Vegas.
Second-round pick Micah Peavy suffered an ankle injury early in the team’s summer schedule, which kept him sidelined for the team’s final two games.
We learned Friday that 13th overall pick, Derik Queen, tore a ligament in his left wrist during their loss to Portland Tuesday night and had successful surgery to address the issue.
The Pelicans said that Queen will be re-evaluated in three months. His status for the start of his rookie campaign is unknown at this time.
The upside here is that the team got an extended look at 7th overall pick, Jeremiah Fears.
The Oklahoma product appeared in all five games, and his 22-point, 6-assist output in their Wednesday night loss to OKC was his best game in Las Vegas.
Fears followed that up with a 22-point, 4-assist, 7-rebound showing against the Pacers.
Two-way talents, Trey Alexander and Hunter Dickinson, also benefited from the additional playing time in Queen and Peavy’s absences.
Alexander scored a team-high 25 points in their contest against the Thunder, and Dickinson added 10 points and 8 rebounds in their final game against Indiana.
The next time the Pelicans are in action will be in the NBA preseason. The team will not play a preseason game in the city of New Orleans.
New Orleans travels to Australia for their first two games on October 3rd and 5th.
They face the Houston Rockets in Birmingham on October 14th and the Magic in Orlando on the 16th.
