After collecting every trophy possible, the Oklahoma City Thunder finally came up short. Fresh off an NBA championship, the historic squad failed to win the 2025 ESPY award for Best Team of the Year. The NFL's Philadelphia Eagles were announced as the winner.

Other nominees included the Los Angeles Dodgers, Florida Panthers, Ohio State football, New York Liberty, UConn Women's Basketball, United States Women's National Soccer Team and North Carolina's Women's Lacrosse.

Despite falling short, the Thunder had a legitimate chance to win this award. They had a historic 68-14 regular-season campaign with the best point differential ever. They looked more pedestrian in the playoffs with vastly different home-road splits, but still ended as the NBA champion.

Several Thunder players attended the ESPY award show, hoping to accept the award. Instead, they supported Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who went home with the 2025 NBA Player of the Year and 2025 Male Athlete of the Year trophies to continue one of the greatest individual years ever.
