Bryan Reynolds’ name has been floated in trade rumors ahead of the July 31 deadline. But the Pittsburgh Pirates would most likely not get back the haul associated with a two-time All-Star who is under team control through 2031.
Reynolds is having a poor season, slashing .225/.287/.369 with an 82 OPS+, 10 home runs and a minus-0.8 bWAR. He’s also playing mediocre defense in right field with minus-5 defensive runs saved.
Would the Pirates move Reynolds even though the return would be low? Pittsburgh Post-Gazette Pirates reporter Noah Hiles doesn’t see that happening.
“The Pirates aren’t really a team that ever looks to trade a piece when they can’t get maximum value and I think if they’d be selling Bryan Reynolds, they’d be selling him when his stock is maybe at an all-time low,” Hiles told the “Foul Territory” podcast.

Hiles said he “wouldn’t completely write” Reynolds off despite his regression this season. He pointed to the fact that Reynolds was an All-Star as recently as last year and was still a productive hitter entering 2025.
“I think it might just be a down year. I can see him rebounding. I can see teams thinking that, ‘Hey, a change of scenery, getting this guy in a lineup with a little bit more protection, take less pressure off him, maybe you get more value out of him there,'” Hiles explained.
Hiles previously reported that Reynolds has a limited no-trade clause for six teams that include the New York Yankees, New York Mets, San Diego Padres, San Francisco Giants, Los Angeles Dodgers and Toronto Blue Jays. According to The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal, the Kansas City Royals are interested in Reynolds to upgrade their outfield.
Reynolds signed an eight-year, $106.75 million extension with the Pirates in April 2023. He’s making $14.25 million this year and is owed $15.25 million annually from 2026-2030. There’s a $20 million club option for 2031 when Reynolds is 36.
