The New York Mets will have to give up some valuable prospect assets if they make a major trade before the July 31 MLB trade deadline. Recently, a pair of top analysts detailed what the cost could be to get high-impact talent like Eugenio Suarez or Corey Seager.
Heading into the weekend, the Mets are in the thick of the Wild Card and National League East race. The club has a talented roster that makes it a contender in the NL. But if they really want to put fear in the hearts of the Los Angeles Dodgers, they could use some more impact players.
On a recent edition of SNY’s “Baseball Night in NY,” Mets reporters and analysts Anthony DiComo and Hannah Keyser offered up two blockbuster trade ideas for a pair of star infielders. The former took a swing at a trade the team has been linked to of late. And that is for Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suraez.
- Eugenio Suarez stats (2025): .250 AVG, .320 OBP, .569 SLG, .889 OPS, 31 HR, 78 RBI, 58 R
DiComo thinks the club could get a deal done for the All-Star and impending free agent if they parted with prospects Jesus Baez and Jonathan Pintaro. Baez is ranked as the seventh-best minor leaguer in New York’s system on MLB.com. Pintaro lands at 22 in their rankings.
The team reporter believes there are some in the organization who might feel that is too much to give up. However, fellow team analyst Liz Benn felt that it might be a deal Arizona passes on. Because they will get better offers from other teams.
The 34-year-old is having a career year just in time for a jump into free agency after the season. He is on pace to potentially hit 60 home runs in 2025. Adding his bat to the lineup would be big for New York in the second half.
- Corey Seager stats (2025): .266 AVG, .372 OBP, .473 SLG, .845 OPS, 13 HR, 30 RBI, 39 R
Keiser had a very bold trade idea. And that was for five-time All-Star Corey Seager. She believes a package of Brett Baty and Triple-A pitcher Dom Hamel might be enough to get a deal done. Mainly because the Texas Rangers would like to move on from the six seasons and the $186 million left on his contract. The idea would be for him to play third.
The shortstop has had a down year in 2025. However, he is still on track for his close to 30 homers. And in a better lineup like the Mets have, his numbers could greatly improve.
