Manchester City are considering a move to re-sign goalkeeper James Trafford, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Current City no.1 Ederson is a subject of transfer interest from Galatasaray, who recently tabled their opening offer to land the Brazilian as he enters the final months of his contract at the Etihad Stadium.

While City’s stance on Ederson’s future is yet to be decided, they are keeping an eye on Trafford, for whom they have a buyback clause.

Trafford, a Manchester City youth product, was sold to Burnley in 2023 for around £15 million but has since impressed with his performances in the Championship.

He helped Burnley secure promotion back to the Premier League with 29 clean sheets in the 2024/25 season, conceding just 16 times.

Trafford recently hinted that he would be ready for a step up to one of the English football’s leading sides should the opportunity arise.

“I think that’s where I’ve always been aiming for, the top of the Prem. he said in a revealing interview on Ben Foster’s popular Fozcast podcast.

“Everyone wants to go there, everyone wants to play there.

“To get there you have to play games, improve and then get to the level where you do go back to wherever I end up whenever I’m ready for it and I’m the best equipped for it and ready to perform.”

Newcastle United have been strong admirers of Trafford this summer but could see their transfer plans scuppered once again.

Eddie Howe’s side were leapfrogged by Chelsea in their pursuit of Joao Pedro, while Liverpool look set to beat the Magpies to Hugo Ekitike’s signature.
