The Mavericks would be giving the Lakers five players.
It isn't likely that the Los Angeles Lakers will move on from LeBron James.
However, if they do, the Dallas Mavericks will be one of the teams interested. If it comes down to a trade, however, the Mavericks might not be as inclined to get something done.
The question would be centered around what the Lakers would have to get in return for a deal to even make sense for them.
From the Maverick standpoint, it's also fair to wonder who they’d be willing to move on from to make this deal possible.
When proposing a potential trade, BasketNews recently suggested a deal that would involve the movement of many pieces on both sides. James would be in return, as well as his son, Bronny James.

Lakers receive: Klay Thompson, P.J. Washington, Caleb Martin, Naji Marshall, Jaden Hardy
Mavericks receive: LeBron James, Dalton Knecht, Bronny James
“The Mavericks would be giving up a chunk of their depth and flexibility, while the Lakers, in return, wouldn't exactly receive a transformative package that sets them up for the future. Here's how a hypothetical trade could look,” they wrote..
Outside of James in this scenario, there isn't much more to consider regarding Dalton Knecht and his son. Perhaps James’ son could be a decent NBA player one day, and Knecht is a respectable 3-point shooter.
However, James would be the biggest piece in this puzzle, obviously.
For the Mavericks, however, is it worth giving up five players for a year or two of a player who turns 41 in December 2025?
