Kyle Finnegan is a prime trade candidate.
Ever since the Washington Nationals' season fell off the table, Kyle Finnegan has been a prime trade candidate.
And with the trade deadline approaching, it's about time for the star righty reliever to be moved.
Where, though, will he go?
The Athletic's Sam Blum thinks it won't be far. He predicts Finnegan will stay in the NL East.
"Kyle Finnegan has been a National for all six of his big league seasons," Blum writes. "Now on an expiring contract, he’s of no use to a team that is far out of the playoff race, largely because of its awful bullpen. But Finnegan has been good, and two division rivals can use some help, namely the Phillies and Mets. Philly’s Dave Dombrowski is known to be willing to trade prospects at the deadline. And while New York’s David Stearns is the opposite, his team’s glaring bullpen needs might force him to be more aggressive."

That means Finnegan could end up pitching against the Nats down the stretch in games that matter for his new team to try to win the NL East.
The Phillies and Mets both need the bullpen help. Whichever team Washington decides to trade Finnegan to could be at a huge advantage on the other in the tight divisional race.
