Giants predicted to trade for 'just a guy' before MLB deadline

San Francisco has a type.

The Athletic's San Francisco Giants beat writer, Grant Brisbee, is one of the more humorous baseball writers you'll find.

And he knows the Giants have a type.

So in making a bold prediction for what the Giants will do before the MLB trade deadline, this is what Brisbee wrote:

"The Giants will get a left-handed reliever and an infielder you’ve heard of, but never really thought about. The reliever is obvious. The infielder? He’s someone you’ve heard of, but never examined long enough to have an opinion on him. You’re neither impressed nor repulsed by his Baseball-Reference page. He is, to be clear, just a guy."

MORE: Joe DiMaggio's hitting streak was almost much longer than 56 games

Brisbee has a point. Even those World Series champion Giants teams of old always seemed to have a few players who neither felt like stars or bums but always seemed to come through when it mattered.

San Francisco has stars, including newly acquired Rafael Devers who needs to heat up.

What the Giants still need are a few fill-ins to improve their overall roster. Those "just a guys" could make all the difference.
