Giants fit as trade for division rival's .294 hitter

Josh Naylor to the Bay?

The San Francisco Giants entered the season hoping to have first base held down by LaMonte Wade Jr.

That didn't work out. Wade now plays for the Angels after immense struggles.

They may still try to get Rafael Devers out in the field some, but right now, he has just been the DH since his trade over from Boston.

That could leave the Giants in need of a trade to keep that spot held down, depending on if they feel Wilmer Flores can move around the diamond at all at this point in his career.

ESPN's Buster Olney thinks a deal for a first baseman is coming.

He writes that the Giants are one of two teams (along with the Mariners) most likely to be involved for Arizona Diamondbacks first baseman Josh Naylor.

Naylor, in the last year of his contract, is batting .294 with 11 home runs.

He's a proven clutch performer in the postseason and a high energy guy that could ignite a second-half run to the playoffs.

Because of Naylor's expiring contract, he wouldn't cost a ton, even from the NL West rival. It's a worthwhile pursuit for the Giants.
