Brewers predicted to trade for 2-time All-Star third baseman at trade deadline

The Milwaukee Brewers sit just one game back from the Chicago Cubs and both teams seek a third base upgrade.

The Milwaukee Brewers are on fire headed into the second half of the season and they are right behind the Chicago Cubs for first place in the National League Central.

Milwaukee has won seven games in a row and eight of their last 10, closing what used to be a six-and-a-half game gap between them and the Cubs.

Both teams are seeking third base upgrades, and both teams would be great fits for Arizona Diamondbacks two-time All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez.

The question is, which team is actually going to land the slugger?

Matt Axisa of CBS Sports boldly predicts that the Brewers will acquire Suárez, but it might not be cheap.

Suárez, 33, has had a monster season with Arizona and earned his second All-Star selection.

Suárez has slugged 31 home runs and driven in 78 runs while slashing .250/.320/.569 in 95 games this season.

“Rookie Caleb Durbin has come on strong the last few weeks, so the Brewers don't absolutely need a third baseman, but why not upgrade when a division title is within reach and you haven't won a postseason series since 2018?” wrote Axisa.

“I'll say Suárez goes to the Brewers and the main piece in the return is righty Tobias Myers, who has been squeezed out of Milwaukee's deep rotation. An overpay? Yeah, probably, but whoever gets Suárez will have to win a bidding war.”

This move would not only boost the lineup, but it would absolutely crush the Cubs.

Suárez has destroyed Cubs pitching in his career, giving the Brewers an extra leg-up on the North Siders.

If Milwaukee does land Suárez, it could spell disaster for the rest of the NL Central and maybe the entire league.
