Urban Meyer seems to Nick Saban will return to coaching, but not in the capacity many think.
Former Alabama QB and ESPN commentator Greg McElroy caused quite a stir when he started a rumor earlier in the week that he believes his former head coach, Nick Saban, will get back into coaching.
While some believe Saban is never coming back, one former head coach in the college and pro ranks seems to think Saban will coach again, and that’s Urban Meyer.
The former Ohio State and Florida Gators head coach says he thinks Saban will coach again, but not in the college ranks; he thinks he’s NFL-bound.
Meyer said this about Saban on The Herd with Colin Cowherd.
“You know, I have not talked to him about this. I would guess, because I know him fairly well and competed against him, that it’s not a little scratch,” Meyer said. “It’s probably a pretty big scratch. That’s the one area that he has not… you know, like you said, he was getting things going at Miami. I actually visited him while he was down there.”
“I don’t think he would go back to college. I don’t see that fit. “I would say very little to no chance he would get involved in college, but I think he would take phone calls from the NFL.”
Saban was once the head coach of the Miami Dolphins before he decided to become the head coach at Alabama. Rumors were at the time that the Sabans were not happy in Miami which is why he was drawn back into the college scene.
So, it would be surprising if Saban at the age of 73, would be interested in coming back to the NFL but then again he could if nothing else just to prove he still has it. Saban still gets cricitzes by some for abandoning the Dolphins, so he may decide to pop back up in the NFL just to shut down his critics.
