Authorities in Arizona are investigating after the home of Diamondbacks star Ketel Marte was burglarized earlier this week, while he was in Atlanta playing in the All-Star Game.
Scottsdale police confirmed to multiple publications, including NBC News and AZ Family, that the department is looking into a “high-dollar residential burglary” that occurred on Tuesday, July 15, the same night as the game.
“Numerous personal items” including jewelry were taken from the home. No one was inside the residence at the time of the burglary, authorities said.
The incident comes amid a string of thefts that have targeted professional athletes over the past year.
In December, the FBI issued a warning to sports leagues, telling athletes that they are being targeted "due to the perception they may have high-end goods like designer handbags, jewelry, watches and cash."
