The Kansas City Chiefs made wide receiver Rashee Rice the 55th overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, and he became an immediate star. Rice’s rookie season was a profound success, where he worked his connection with Patrick Mahomes to rack up 79 receptions for 938 yards and seven touchdowns.

However, once Rice had his first official NFL offseason, the young Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native experienced a few hiccups, such as trouble with the law.

Everyone still remembers Rice’s involvement in a multi-car crash that occurred in Dallas, Texas, where he later pled guilty to felony racing on the highway in addition to a felony accident causing serious bodily injury. Rice was caught driving 119 miles per hour in a Lamborghini and later fled the scene after causing the accident.

Rice has since taken full responsibility and apologized for his actions, but now his punishment has been determined, at least in court.

Rice will receive five years of probation and is being sentenced to serve 30 days in jail. Though, those 30 days of jail time may be served at his own convenience throughout his five-year probationary period, meaning they will not impact his football career.

However, now that he’s been punished in the court system, Rice is subject to more penalties by the NFL, which had been waiting to learn how his case would be handled by the justice system. According to Chiefs expert Matt Derrick, Kansas City can expect Rice to receive anywhere from a two-to-four game suspension during the 2025 NFL regular season.
