Michigan football lands Jordan Deck, a four-star defensive back and former Baylor commit

After flipping 4-star DB Jordan Deck, the Wolverines now have 21 commits in the Class of 2026 and the No. 9 ranked recruiting class.

Michigan football had been quiet for a couple of weeks on the recruiting trail. Then on Wednesday, July 16, head coach Sherrone Moore tweeted his signature eyeball emojis, accompanied by a "Yes Sir!", signaling another commitment is close.

Soon, it was announced that Jordan Deck, a four-star safety from just north of Dallas, had flipped his commitment from home-state Baylor to Michigan. He shared multiple stories on his Instagram Story confirming the move.

Deck, a 6-foot-1½, 190-pound safety from Frisco, Texas (Lone Star High School), is the No. 37 safety, No. 53 overall player in the state of Texas and the No. 403 player in the Class of 2026 at any position, per 247Sports composite rankings.

According to his recruiting page, Deck recorded 42 tackles, one sack and 12 pass breakups in his junior season in 2024, one year after he was named the District 6-5A D-I Defensive Newcomer of the Year as a sophomore, when he racked up 75 tackles, five interceptions and 10 pass breakups.

"Big-framed safety prospect with past ball production and striking ability," wrote 247sports scouting analyst Gabe Brooks. "Physical tools and functional athleticism provide consistent tackling acumen.

"Projects as a P4-caliber safety with the size and play style that could warrant some back-seven flexibility as a part-time off-ball linebacker in certain packages. Physical tools and functional athleticism suggest significant long-term developmental potential."

His sister, Mia, was a former East Texas A&M basketball player (2021-24) who averaged 9.1 points per game in 91 career games, which included 14.9 points per game as a senior. His other sister, Kyla, plays basketball at North Texas after starting her career at Stephen F. Austin.

Michigan defensive backs coach LaMar Morgan reacts to a play against Oregon during the second half at Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2024.

Deck took his official visit to U-M on June 13, then one week later to Baylor before he opted to pledge to the Bears on June 24. But with some recent movement in the U-M secondary − such as Donovan Webb (once thought to be a U-M lead) picking Texas Tech and former U-M commit Brody Jennings flipping to Miami − there seemed to be more room for him in the class.

Michigan has been extremely active in Texas in the 2026 class, landing four commitments: four-star WR Zion Robinson, four-star DL Alister Vallejo, three-star WR Jayden Pile and now Deck.

Michigan is back up to 21 commits in the Class of 2026, which now ranks No. 9 overall in the nation, according to 247Sports.
