FC Barcelona officially kicked off their pre-season preparation on Monday, July 14, and just three days later, new manager Hansi Flick welcomed journalists during the first open training session of the 2025-26 season.
While the players were warming up on the pitch, the German manager took time to speak briefly with the media, sharing his thoughts on the squad and the challenges ahead.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick is very much pleased with the group he has at his disposal.
In fact, the coach highlighted his satisfaction with the young talents coming through La Masia, although he also acknowledged that some of them will not be part of the pre-season tour to Asia. Out of the 35 players currently training, Flick expects 26 to travel for the tour.
Confident despite financial challenges
It is said that one of the standout names in Flick’s media chat was new signing Joan Garcia, a player the coach sees as both a present and future investment for the club.
Flick revealed that there was a broad consensus within the sporting department when it came to signing the young talent, underlining the club’s faith in his potential.

He also made it clear that he fully trusts Deco and the sporting leadership, even though Barcelona are operating under tight financial conditions.
When asked about specific players, he mentioned Marc-Andre ter Stegen, subtly pointing out that the German goalkeeper’s situation is also tied to the club’s economic difficulties.
Happy with the depth
The coach was particularly enthusiastic about the quality and depth of Barcelona’s midfield options, stressing that any new signings would likely target other areas of the squad.
For now, Flick is focused on building a competitive team, blending the club’s established stars with the promising youngsters who continue to emerge from the academy.
With the new season approaching, Flick’s first public appearance as Barcelona coach showed calm optimism and confidence, despite the financial constraints the club is facing.
